TaqaBuddy runs a language model entirely on the device in your hand. Nothing is sent anywhere, because there is nowhere to send it — no cloud, no subscription, no account, no data collection.

02Position

Why not just use a phone?

It is the right question, and two well-funded AI gadgets died recently for not having an answer. Ours is narrow, which we think is the only kind that survives contact with reality.

It works where a phone doesn't. Underground, on a plane, in the field, out of coverage. Not degraded — the same, because it never needed a connection in the first place.

Nothing leaves the device. Not "encrypted in transit," not "we don't train on it." There is no server. There is nowhere for it to go.

It can sense what is around it. A standard expansion header and a camera connector mean it takes sensor modules — and the assistant can decide on its own to use one and answer from what it actually measured. A sealed phone will not do that, and will never let you add to it.

03Scope

  • A handheld device running a language model locally, on its own processor.
  • Speech in, speech out — entirely on-device.
  • Optional sensor modules the assistant can invoke by itself.
  • Open source software. Every line that runs on it can be read.

What it isn't — yet

  • Finished. Nothing to buy, and no date being promised.
  • As fast as the cloud. A small model on a low-power chip has physics to obey.
  • As broad as a frontier model. It trades breadth for working when nothing else does.
  • Seeing yet. The camera is designed in; we have shipped nothing that uses it, so we will not call it a feature.
  • A pre-order. There is no store link on this page, deliberately.

Our commitment: every demo we publish will be one continuous take with the latency visible on screen. If it is slow, you will watch it be slow.
